According to UNICEF data, close to 23 million children of ages between 5-16 do not go to school. The main reason for this is poverty.  At the same time most of the education that is currently offered in a majority of public schools, many private schools, and madrassas, is below par. Many thinking Pakistanis realize that this state of affairs can offer only a dismal future to the children of today.

Since the problem of poverty can only be solved by the efforts of competent and dedicated politicians in power, this paper does not offer any solution for it.

The suggestions given below aim at improving education for those children who go to school, but do not receive quality education. Even most of school going children in Pakistan come from underprivileged families, and many are undernourished and ill-fed.

علم حاصل کرنے کے لیے خواندگی پہلا اور اہم  ترین مرحلہ ہے۔ جیسا کہ سب جانتے ہیں پاکستانی بچے ، خاص طور پر وہ بچے جو پسماندہ گھرانوں سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں اور حکومتی اسکولوں  میں تعلیم پاتے ہیں خواندگی میں بہت پیچھے رہ جاتے ہیںَ ۔ راقم کا خیال ہے کہ اگرچہ اس کی بہت سی وجوہات ہیں۔۔۔ بے تخیل نصاب، ناقص نصابی کتابیں، غیر موثر تدریس، غیر آرام دہ بنیادی سہولتیں، (مثلا پنکھوں کی کمی، غسلخانوں کا فقدان، ٹوٹی پھوٹی کرسی، میزیں، کھیل کے میدان کانہ ہونا)، اس کے علاوہ  طلباء کے ساتھ غیر حساس سلوک،انھیں شرمندہ کرنا، وغیرہ،یہ سب ایسے طریقہ کار یا حقائق ہیں جو طالب علموں میں دھوکہ دہی ، سرقہ(پلیجیے رزم) ا ور  بجائے سمجھ کر پڑھنے کے رٹنے کی عادت ڈال دیتے ہیں۔

SINCE its inception, Pakistan has lurched from crisis to crisis. The poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz was once asked what the future held in store for the country. He is said to have replied: “It will just go on and on like this”. And it has. In the current phase, a new factor has emerged: the loss of humanity. This ensures that living conditions won’t get any better for the impoverished majority.

پاکستان اپنے قیام سے لے کر اب تک کئی بحران سے  دو چار ہی  رہا ہے۔ فیض احمد فیض سے ایک بار پوچھا گیا کہ ملک کا مستقبل کیا ہے؟  انہوں  نے جواباً کہا: “یہ ایسے ہی چلتا رہے گا”۔ اورہوا بھی کچھ ایسا ہی ہے۔آج کل  ایک نیا عنصر سامنے آیا ہے جسے انسانیت کے خاتمہ کا نام دیا گیا ہے ۔ جس سےیہ بات یقینی طور پر سمجھ میں آتی ہے کہ  غریبوں کے حالات بہتر نہ ہونگے۔
