TODAY is March 8 — International Women’s Day, an occasion to revisit the women’s movement in Pakistan. Where do they stand 76 years after independence? This question was quite comprehensively answered at the annual conference of the newly formed Fem Consortia comprising 12 women’s rights organisations and five alliances from across the country. Much food for thought emerged from the research papers presented at the four sessions on women in politics, adolescent girls, working women and climate change and women, and the panel discussions that followed.

آج 8 مارچ ہے ،خواتین کا عالمی دن ۔ہمارےلیے ایک موقع ہے کہ پاکستان میں خواتین کی تحریک پر نظر ثانی کریں ۔ آزادی کے 76 سال بعد یہ تحریک کہاں کھڑی  ہیں؟ اس سوال کا جواب مکمل طور پر فیم کنسورشیا کی سالانہ کانفرنس میں سامنے آیا۔جو حقوقِ نسواں سے متعلق بارہ تنظیموں اور ملک بھر سے پانچ پارٹنرزپر مشتمل نو تشکیل شدہ کنسورشیا ہے۔ اس پروگرام میں چارمختلف  سیشن رکھے گئے تھے ۔جن کے موضوع سیاست میں خواتین، نوعمر لڑکیاں، ملازمت کرنے والی خواتین ،موسمیاتی تبدیلی اور خواتین تھے۔ان پر تحقیقی مقالے پیش کیے گئے جس کے بعد  پینل مباحثوں کے نتیجہ میں کئی قابلِ فکر پہلو نکل کر سامنے آئے۔

IN his well-researched and comprehensively documented book Pakistan’s Wars: An Alternative History, Dr Tariq Rahman pleads the case for peace. The author’s words are most convincing as they are preceded by a detailed account of the horrors of war that Pakistan has experienced time and again. But will the powers that be, and who have led us into conflict a number of times, take heed? Be that as it may, the fact is that the country stands on the brink of disaster. Those of us who wield the pen should feel morally obliged to reaffirm Dr Rahman’s plea and spread it far and wide.

ڈاکٹر طارق رحمان اپنی کتاب   Pakistan’s Wars: An Alternative History میں امن کی پرزور حمایت کرتے ہیں۔جوایک  اعلیٰ تحقیقی،جامع  اور حوالہ جاتی کتاب ہے  ۔ مصنف کے الفاظ  بہت پُر تاثیر ہیں کیونکہ اپنی کتاب  میں انہوں نے  امن  کے بارے میں لکھنے سے پہلے جنگ کی ہولناکیوں کا تفصیلی ذکر  کیا ہے ۔جن  کاپاکستان پر بار ہااثر پڑا ہے ۔لیکن ہم کہہ نہیں سکتے کہ وہ طاقتیں جنہوں نے کئی بارہمیں تنازعات کی طرف دھکیلا ہے ۔کیا وہ ان کے  اس  پیغام پر دھیان دیں گی ؟جو بھی ہو،مگر حقیقت یہی ہے کہ ملک تباہی کے دہانے پر کھڑا ہے۔ ہم میں سے جو اہلِ قلم ہیں ۔ہمارا یہ اخلاقی فرض ہے کہ  ڈاکٹر طارق رحمٰن کے پیغام کو عام کریں ۔
